Help: Looking for Rental Excess reduction insurance in Europe

Hi Folks

Am travelling in the European Alps in September for two weeks with a rental bike from a rental agency in Munich. The agency has mentioned an rental excess fee of a maximum of Euro 2500 in case there is damage/theft of the bike. To reduce the excess to zero they have quoted an additional Euro 25 a day. Am looking for an outside insurance company that will cover this excess for a motorcycle rental with a fee smaller than the Euro 25 quoted by the agency.

Have found a couple of British/Irish sites that offer excess reduction insurance but this is only for those resident in the UK. I am Indian, resident in the UAE. If anyone has taken something similar kindly point me in the right direction

I see from HU that "World Nomad"s has a product that offers excess reduction up to $2000, but not sure if it covers motorcycle rental. Have sent them a mail and am awaiting a response

Cheers
Raj

Your best bet is to talk to whoever is your current provider of travel insurance. You can sometimes add on excess insurance to your travel insurance for a sort-of reasonable price. My insurance company quoted ~140 euros for zero excess on an eight-day bike rental in New Zealand.

Basically it's never going to be cheap. To be honest, if you're that worried, the 25 euros per day for zero excess is pretty competitive. Any other company is not going to have any data on how big of a risk you are to them, so it will be either very expensive, or very dodgy.

True - renting a motorcycle is never going to be cheap. I can see if you are going for a long term rental of a few weeks or more, it makes sense to hunt for a cheaper insurance rate - but at that point you might be better to just buy a bike and sell when done.

Thanks guys for the responses.
I guess I will go with the Euro 25 cover
By the way, World Nomads came back by Email and said they cover only car rental excess and not for motorcycle rental

Hey Raj,
I'll be riding the Alps in September as well. When do you arrive and do you have a rough route planned yet?

Why don't you buy a bike? That's what i'm doing, getting it shipped back to the UK.
You could pick up an OK sort of bike for 1200Euro's and sell it when finished..or take it back to UAE. Might not be as easy as UK, I grant you that.
I get a green card/insurance from Czech Transport people, 3rd party only so I need to get some cover for theft.
Anyone know where I can get that?. Bennetts don't want to know.

Hi Matt
I am arriving in Munich on 1 Sep and will start on the 2nd heading south into Austria, Leichtenstein, Switzerland , Italy (Dolomites), Austria and back to Munich on 8th. Covering some of the popular passes enroute including the Stelvio Pass and Grossglockner alpine highway. The route plan is ready.
What are your plans?

Hi Fruid
That was the original plan. But locating a suitable bike proved a little tough. Do you know anyone or a shop that can help?
Would appreciate any help in this regard
