Turkey is a signatory to the "Green Card" agreement and so if you have insurance there, your insurance company should be able to issue you a green card for travel to other countries that are signed up to the agreement so long as they are willing to cover that risk - MINIMUM cover that the visited country requires by THEIR laws.
The Green Card is an accepted form of proof that you have such cover. A white piece of paper like many UK insurance companies provide does not cut it in a lot of places.
On the reverse of the green card is a list of all the countries that it is valid for. Any place that is crossed out, you need to buy cover at the border.
The Green Card System is managed by the Council of Bureaux in London.
