Baku to Turkey Roads
Guys any tips on particular roads to thrash through between Baku and turkish border? I want to head north into Georgia. Gravel, mountains, forests?? Any good roads? Will be arriving in Baku from Aktau in a few days.

Which road you will take to Georgia from Baku? Did you decide? From Ganja, the main highway or from Zaqatala - Lagodeki?
Main highway is faster and not so scenery, Zaqatala - Lagodeki more scenery and beautiful with twists and less crowded. I recommend the second one.

Watch for police in Aze. Never overtake if it is forbidden. Always watch for radars and police. If you meet them don't forget to smile and be friendly.

In Georgia roads are narrow, not in good condition, drivers crazy and never care for rules. You will not see much radars in Georgia, only at some points. Try to obey rules in Georgia (though not much radars). Police in Georgia doesn't forgive.

Roads in both countries are asphalt, rural roads are gravel. In Georgia more mountains. In Aze if you ride in second road you will see mountains too.

Thanks for your post, that's pretty informative.

Are you serious, only gravel roads in Georgia?
I was thinking of riding on a road bike (GSX750) from Turkey to Georgia across Armenia, then pick the ferry in Poti. Is that realistic?

I have corrected the mistake. Roads are generaly asphalt. Some rural roads gravel.

No problem, you can easily do that, though don't know about the ferry.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
