Travel Insurance

Do any of you have experience of World Nomads travel insurance who advertise on this website? Are they any good (obviously I mean in the unfortunate event of having to claim)? Have you found them competitive?

I have done a few quotes with them:
  1. 3 week policy to cover my 20 day trip to Norway in July
  2. 2 week ploicy to cover my trip to the Pan Gathering in Leon, Spain in September
  3. A 3 month policy to cover both trips

I was a little surprised to see that it's about twice as much to have a 3 month policy, against having two individual policies. If I take out two individual policies it'll cost me a little over £50 for both, which I think is quite reasonable but it would be interesting to hear any experiences you have with World Nomads.

At the risk of derailing a thread before it's even begun (not my intention ), I've used Navigator Travel that others here have recommended. I travelled for 4 1/2 weeks to and from Morocco, including some off road, that came to under £50. Might be worth a look, depending on the (more relevant?) replies from others.

That's what I found when we were looking for biking in the USA insurance last summer.

My wife's Nat West bank account has travel insurance thrown in as part of what she pays for the account and we found that covered her for motorcycling. It seemed a bit unlikely that it would so we double checked and got it confirmed by email so that's what we used. They added me to the policy, as a spouse, for £75. We didn't make any claims so I've no idea how efficient or effective it would have been but it was a lot cheaper than the alternatives.

That's interesting, I bank with Natwest, I'll look in to it, chances are it will be ok for short trips, not extensive ones!

I used sta travel. Pop into your local branch in the uk and have a chat. It's about £600 per year and is one of the few insurance policies that specifically covers you for motorcycle riding. I think it's there gold policy from memory

Navigator... They actually understand you're going on a bike trip.

And you can talk to them on the phone to discuss your requirements.

And the people you talk to aren't trained monkeys with script sheets.

And their prices are usually cheaper as well.

So yeah, phone Navigator.

Got to be Nav

Navigator gets my vote. All the cover and worked out cheaper than our last insurer.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
