Angry Metal Mule for the new GS water cooled

Have you ordered new Metal Mule pannier racks?
Mine came so I can continue to use my MM boxes. The new brackets are stainless steel and grit blasted but came badly scratched and this finish won't last.

They would swap them for another set but in a few weeks they will look tatty too I expect.

I'm getting mine painted for £100 in BMW silver but MM wanted another £60 to paint them black (on a £15k bike - I think not).

The chap in the paint shop couldn't believe they were supplied like this !!

Be warned if you've not chosen which boxes you want yet. These racks are £300 as well so not what you would call cheap!

Other options might be better.

You're worried about a few scratches on your stainless steel rack? How about sending them back, or better still, getting busy for five minutes with a bit of wet and dry?

why not, I would be if I had spent 300 quid on a supposedly premium product on a 15k bike.

You expect stuff to be of at last a reasonable standard when it's new, after that, well it's up to the individual, but not everyone wants the ratbike look!

Hmmm yes if I've just done 20000 miles RTW then it can look a bit travelled, if I've just opened the package I expect it to look new!

They have decided to amend the finish on the racks and try something else.

Racks already supplied will be left with customers unless they complain to Metal Mule asking for them to be refinished.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
