LoneRider semi rigid soft panniers

I bought a pair and had them installed a few months ago. 38L on muffler side, 45L on the other side so they are symmetrical. Made of Hypalon, the same material US Navy SEAL attack rafts are made of. Highly abrasion resistant and fully waterproof.

I had a get off a few days before Xmas on a rock ledge, when I got home and pressure washed the bags, not even a mark on the left side bag on the side it went down. I'm impressed, to say the least,

Check out some of the vids on that site. They throw a bike with the bags off a moving truck and drag it for some ways, bags suffer no damage. I know of no other soft luggage capable of this.

I think some companies are confusing motorcycle holidays with the cold war.

It's just rediculous overkill !! I have £30 ex army canvas bags that have been crashed all over the world and they do everything panniers should do.

Ted, Blanco'd by National Servicemen doesn't compete with Navy SEAL Attack boat material. I mean, not loosing my carbon fibre SAS style spork must be worth the extra £780 alone

Sorry Brownie, that is a lot of cash for bags. Are they wider than GS bars too?

Mosko Moto and a host of others are well within the range of these price wise. I got the racks and bags on sale for 950.00. Racks can run 2-300 for a GS in anyone's brand, I didn't think 3-400 a bag was cost prohibitive compared to other bags made of lesser material.

Yes, the 38/45 set up I got is 3.5" wider that the bars.

Ya, I could do the same thing along with everyone else who wanted to save some money. But there's 10's of 1k's of people who throw commercial bags on racks that are in the same price range as the LR's. I liked the semi rigid set up, not just a bag that sags. I also liked the fact the insert can be removed and the bags folded up when not needed.

The only thing I didn't like, and will change when they become available are the quick dismount set up for the bags, right now they are on unless you want to unbolt them.

If I was worried about saving money, I'd not have bought a 1200GS, I'd have bought something else.

The problem existed, I had hard luggage and didn't want to replace either pannier on a get off on dirt. Fortunately, I had the get off 3 days after the hard been replaced with the LR's.

Had I had the hard bags on, I'd have needed to replace a 500.00 Vario. As I'm into the project for 1000.00, I'm now into the project for 500.00. I spent 1K to save 500., the next get off I'll have broken even.

Heard back from Lone Rider. They tested the bags to 60#'s each, but recommend weight be kept to 30#'s per bag.

Up to 100#'s can safely strapped to the top of each bag. Two poly 30-40L bags, one sitting on each pannier, I'll not have to take a top box.

Why not buy eg. Sakwy 30L from 21'Brothers for merely 130 euro:
SAKWY 30L

or something similar for little more from Red Mammut:

I could have chosen your links bags or several other brands like Mosko's or BMW's own soft bags. I chose these LR's due to the materials used. LR is the only company I'm aware of that's thrown a bike with their bags attached, off a truck and dragged it a fair distance on a dirt road, then showed the results and how their bags withstood that harsh test.

Other bags may or may not stand up as well as the LR's, but there's no way of knowing without these other companies demonstrating the same type of testing. LR had to have a LOT of confidence to perform that destruction testing on their bags, and that built a confidence in myself.

Price point? I looked at that this way. My Vario's are near 500 dollars each. A get off like I had 3 days before X-mas would have had me replacing the left Vario, to the tune of near 1/2 what the racks and LR bags cost me.

I'm sure others bags would be nearly as or as durable and last a lifetime like you linked or the Mosko's/BMW soft bags, but that video test sold me on these bags.

Full time gear in the bags,
38L=13#'s
45L 13#'s.
Supplemental supplies for a long trip I want in the bags and are set aside ready to be loaded weighs 14#s bringing each bag total to just about 20#. That suggests I can load another 10#'s each bag for 30# total per side. 10#'s more in each means I don't have to strap a second roll top dry bag to the passenger seat, thus reducing the higher loaded gear weight for better overall handling.

I appreciate those who've taken the time to respond with their thoughts. As I now know LR suggests staying with 30#'s each but tested to 60#'s each, I'm much more comfortable with how I want to load the bike for a trip like I made to Ak. last summer.

I really like my LR bags and tent. Yes they're pricey but you get what you pay for. Oh, and they take a licking.
