Armband as gps/smartphone holder
Hi,
can you, please, tell me why I shouldn't use armband mounted on a windscreen as gps/smartphone holder on a motorcycle?
I have a gps holder mounted on a handlebar, but I don't like the position. I would prefer higher position and I am thinking to mount an armband on the windscreen. Vibration is main reason why I wouldn't choose some solid way of mount (they are much stronger than on a handlebar). Is it a bad idea?

Because unless it cost £200+ and says Touratech on it is not got a place on anyone's bike...

Back in the world of sanity, I don't see any reason why not. Might be hard to see the screen in sunlight if the case has a plastic cover.

Have you considered a RAM X-Grip? They are very good.

Armband as gps/smartphone holder
I agree it is much better to mount by the screen.

Here's a few pics of what i rigged on my vstrom - a metal strip i had which i drilled and mounted to the screen, a £15 mounting bar and a £10 sat nav holder off ebay.

It worked great and didn't require any skill to do or a small mortgage to purchase.

I have a similar system mounted on my 125 Suzuki - you can just about see it behind the windscreen in the picture below. £10 sat nav case from Ebay and a diy bracket to mount it on the screen. Worked perfectly on that trip to Italy and continues to do so.

You could possibly do with poping a small blue pill in the tank there B o B.

I've tried a jogging style phone holder and is worse than bicycle mounts for both reception and visibility, but it works. You can try a lot of ten quid eBay phone holders before you've run up a Touratech level of bill.

These days I often just leave the phone in a pocket and listen to the voices in my head ( via blue tooth. ) .

On the end ... and in the past, my Nokia has been in my pocket and never lost gps signal. Unfortunately no more Nokia. Time to move on.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
