Web Host

I use Aussiehost. They are cheap and you can host as many domains as you like under the one hosting package. They're also Australian based, which for me is important. There are cheaper hosts in the US and Europe but I'd recommend getting one in the country you're most likely to attract for purposes of speed and reliability.

What are you planning to use on the website. If it's something simple like a Wordpress site or one of the popular CMS platforms like Joomla, then there are many places and they provide simple management consoles to get your software installed.

I use Bluehost (Web Hosting, Domain Names, eCommerce - Bluehost.com) for my own blog and use GoDaddy for some other customer stuff, both of which I am happy with.

The choice of a website host depends on the needs of your website: I have switched from godaddy to aplus and back over the last five years, because of reasons that may be different to yours. Are you going for a site that will need a large hosting package (in which case you may be less price-sensitive for the investment, but wish for the best customer quality there is), or it is going to be just a small personal travelling site? More detail can help with providing a better response, but in all cases, the choice will depend on the size of your site .

Remember all the Freehosters who died with all the stored webpages on them, like Geocities...

At thirst i would try to see - if you need a hoster, need to buy a Domain, Webspace and so on.

You can also use a free blog like blogger.com, wordpress.com and so on. I suggests to use one of the big players - they "should" be online also in 10 or more years. There you also can buy ore link your custom domain.

When you want to have your own storage and domain - i suggests also to look after a solid offer - for an company who is well known.

Another option is to use a NAS at home for hosting, like Qnap or Synology when you have some IT Skill. They can offer much more than hosting your Domain, you can run Virtual Windows instances on them, allowing RDP Connections and so on. Also VPN is possible.

Here is an article about: http://www.4x4tripping.com/2013/05/i...es-surfen.html

But you have to support them by yourself - something what a paid hoster or a free hoster will do for you.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
