Yes I'm afraid you are all right.

The scala headset in particular can only connect to one other BT device - this is pretty standard.

However, there are GPS units (like the Tom Tom Rider) that will act as a hub, but only for your phone. So you can hear the Tom Tom directions through your headset, and should your phone ring it will also divert those calls to your headset - but unfortunately it doesn't allow passenger or rider to rider talking - for that you'd need a more traditional headset unit like the starcom1 StarCom1 Motorcycle intercom helmet audio communication system bluetooth

I'm wrong...... the new unit can deal with 3 connections (2 headset pairings, 1 mobile phone/GPS pairing). So you can connect with your passenger and another rider within 100 metres (with nothing in the way) as well as your GPS OR Mobile Phone.

yeah

i use a hand held vhf setup so me and the wifey can talk and i also use it for the logging roads around here. nothing beats a loadded logging truck whipping around the corner in your lane doing 110

im not sure how much i would i trust the distance 100m.... use use bluetooth on my lieca gps for antenna connections and cell phone data link.

anything over 7m is a poor connection.

these a $50k units, best of the best.

i had the scala its a piece of junk very cheap made. i switched to the interphone blue ant.. works 100% better and is a bit more sturdy. you can connect to gps and other headset for bike to bike but only 100 meters.but for gps and phone connect i recommend it.

You seem to be talking about exactly what I am after - a bluetooth comms system (like the Interphone) that allows bike to bike (or rider to pillion) and allows bluetooth gps.
This must mean two channels I guess which I gather some systems don't handle.

Can you advise what gps you use ? My thinking is that I don't want the distraction of watching the gps map - I would want the gps in a pocket and listen to the verbal directions.

I have a small bike rental business and many customers are unused to riding on the left without the distraction of watching the gps unit, so the zumo would be wasted - I'm thinking the nuvi 310 ?

Any advice appreciated

hi h. i use the garmin zumo 550 with a motorola v9 phone and the interphone.
it works perfect for me incoming calls i just speak and it answers.like i said the only problem is if you do bike to bike you have to pair the 2 devices and then switch back to listen to gps. i really dont use that feature but for gps directions and phone and music its great.i have tested it calling my friend in london while im in usa doing 70mph and he couldnt tell i was on bike.i do have a full face helmet tho. as for having the gps in your pocket im not sure of that zumo does send you on some wierd routes and its good to see map to save you going out of your way..hope this helps.

I think I'm getting your meaning - what do you actually do to change mode from bike to bike and gps - is it a matter of pushing the button on the headset ?
I have yet to see a non-complimentary report about the sound quality and general performance of these things and your comments back that up.
Appreciate your assistance.

The Scala Q2 does allow bike to bike - just used it with a pal on our recent trip to Morocco & it worked well. He has a Tom Tom 2 and I use a Zumo 550. Only annoying bit is that when we are talking and the GPS units want to give instructions it cuts the conversation and gives the GPS instructions preference. Also have my phone set up through the Zumo via bluetooth/ Scala headset.
