Veracruz conditions during Oaxaca crisis?

I'm riding my motorcycle south from Los Angeles on June 30th and expect to be in Veracruz around July 7th. I was planning to be in Oaxaca about July 14th. The situation in Oaxaca seems to be deteriorating in terms of the availability of fuel and the possibility of further violence. What is the situation in Veracruz and are the road blocks around Oaxaca city making it difficult to find fuel in Veracruz? Any news from travelers or residents currently in Veracruz would be appreciated.

I live in Veracruz. No problems here other than very bad road conditions in the south. Oaxaca should be ok in a week. Keep an eye on Chiapas. Watch for landslides and heavy rains. PM me if you need alternate routings or advice.

Veracruz

Thank you MikeMike, Soerd Baker has recommended the folowing route:

"All pavement SLP , SLP to VER VER

Mex 57 Libre from SLP south to San Luis de la Paz
- east on Mex 110 via Victoria Sta Catarina, Peñamiller
- Mex 120 via Pinal de Amoles, Jalpan, Xilitla
Mex 85 to Tamzunchale
Cross road east to Huejutla de Reyes
- Mex 105 south
to Mineral de Monte
- cut east and south to Tulancingo
- Mex 130 Libre east to Poza Rica then to EL Tajin and south to Mex 131
- Mex 131 West to Martinez de la Torre
- there turn south to MISANTLA , Naolinco and Xalapa
- Mex 140 Libre to Paso de Ovejas and VER VER"

My current plan is (starting July 5th): San Luis de la Paz - Jalpan - Huejutla de Reyes - Mineral del Monte - Papantla - Tlacotalpan (each city listed is an overnight).

Leaving Los Angeles the end of next week. News from here warns of gas and food shortages streaching into Vercruz due to Oaxaca road closures.

Thanks!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
