Good info , but you got screwed on the $ exchange rate
The official rate is 1$ - 7.28 Q . So even as a non Spanish speaker you should get at least 7 Q for 1 $

The banks in Antigua were giving Q6.3 to 1 USD as of 2 weeks ago. As usual, best to use an ATM, but hard to avoid money changers at the border if you want some local currency. I got 7.09, including fees, at a cajero in Antigua.

Yes, very bad money exchange rate in the border
so I just changed a few for border crossing and the following day

When you get city(Guatemala City, Antigua, or Xela)
The exchange rate in Bank(Banco) is much better
ex: Banco Industrial ; Banco Bam
Cheers

6.3 ...That's very strange !
Because of my business I must be aware of the exchange rate on a daily base and it was never below 7.26 in many years as you can see from the link below from the Banco de Guatemala .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
