Ultra lightweight tent

I'm looking for an ultra lightweight, 2 person tent, with loads of ventilation for a desert trip. Max weight 3 kg, but preferably even less.

I live in the UK, but if there's something thats only available in the US or Canada that's fine.

Look at the bibler megamid. It is roomy, lightweight and good venelation. It will also take high winds well.

Have a look at the MSR Fusion 3. Top stuff. We're really pleased with it. Its loads of £££ though. (£350 if remember right).

Give us a buzz

Here is an article on what to look for in a tent. Many times you get what you pay for. If you are doing the occasional camping trip an inexpensive tent is fine. If you are going to climb mount everst you need a $700 tent. Most people fall between those two extreams. BTW I have no affilitation with this store, but have done alot of business with them and find they are honest and customer service is very good.

Hi, a Jack Wolfskin 2 might just be OK, bit heavier than you specified at 3.6 KG but it has a free standing inner mesh which can be used as a mosquito net on top of a bed in dodgy 3rd world hotels. I have just ordered one after being impressed by a friends tent whilst travelling through Africa, met a few people with them and they all seemed impressed, good price to, we have ordered ours from camping@outriggers-camping.co.uk for £135 inc p&p check out www.wolfskin.de for full info. Regards Chris

Hi,

I would go for a "good brand" Hilleberg, North face, Lowland.

If your off for a long time quality is all that count,s.

I have a lowland trailrunner III. Weight 2,3 kg and build with the best materials. (Carington, Taftan and Easton)... And still I have the ocasionally problem with zippers... But I have seen many more with cheaper (wolfskin, coleman) tents... and in the desert.. you don,t just walk into the shop for a new one

Cost monye, but sleeps well

Maarten

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
