Heres the perfect tent: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...otorreise08-21

A tent has to be able to stand without pegs even on hard ground. About the BMW bike you definitly have to think again:

I've found buying a tent in the U.K for trips in Africa or South America is a way to be "boiled in the bag"..

Tents marketed here are generally well sealed weather-proof tents. They're not designed for the mega temperatures and tropical or desert climates.

Make sure you get something very well ventilated. A poorly ventilated tent in the tropics or hot deserts is MISERABLE !!

Ideally you want something with a free-standing mesh inner so you can sleep under the stars with a cooling breeze without being eaten alive by bugs.

I took a Vango tent to Africa and it was an Oven.. I sold it cheap and bought a South African branded tent in Malawi which was 75% mesh dome tent which was much better.

I've had a Salewa Denali II (old model) which was fantastic, only problem was that it was on the small side (195cm on the long side, and I'm 191cm), I sold it, and got me a MSR Hubba Hubba NX which is a great tent with two (in my eyes) major problems: a) as there is hardly any venting it creates it's own micro climate (it actually rains inside it) unless it's stormy, b) as the doors only open to one side it's impossible to create a proper draft when camping when it's hot (I've had 37c in Bulgaria at 11pm) ...

So currently I'm looking for something which does have all the properties of the Hubba Hubba, but actually is well thought through. I know that MSR is a massive brand, and sell thousands of tents, but they do not work well in moist weather, or when there is no wind. For me that is...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
