Intercoms
Can anyone offer any advice on which would be the best intercom to buy to use with a Cabourg flip lid. One of the problems I have found is that some intercoms either fit a full face or open face but not both

We use autocom rider to pillion intercom. I use an Arai full face & my wife a Cabourg J1 flip front. It seems to be fitted OK in both helmets. I have also seen Autocoms fitted in open face helmets.

I tried an Allen intercom from Maplins. After 45MPH, we couldn't hear one another, the mobile phone didn't work and my MP3 player was muted because of the wind noise.

I have now tried an Autocom unit at their Warwick HQ and it was worlds better. Autocom will be at the NEC bike show in about 3 weeks time, selling their PRO 7 model for £199 ( normally £270 ). While I was at Autocom, they told me that they're releasing a new model at the NEC, so it's probably worth waiting a few weeks for the new model. I've heard nothing but good reports from Autocom users and Autocoms' customer service is excellent.

Cooper Reading BMW (www.cooperreadingbmw.co.uk)have a good sale price on Autocom the full on wire to bike both headsets etc etc (or had) £275 from memory. Mine is in a Caberg Justisimo, wife's in Arai. Works BRILLIANT (had several others).
you might need to either cut out some padding, or push polystyrene in a bit for comfort - I keep meaning to on mine.Get it comfy, then loosly sow the wires out of way for safe keeping.
Not cheap - but best we've had.
(Wire to bike - they eat a 9V battery every day or two otherwise - always compare what you're getting for your money - theirs is the full works)

Hi, I have an Autocom fitted to an Airoh flip front no problem, it works OK up to about 70mph but after that it gets difficult to hear and lot of wind noise transmitted.It isn't as good as they say it is, sent it back to Autocom's factory to be tested and they say it's fine

Many thanks for your responses.

I've bought a back chat intercom. There are no batteries, no wiring into the bikes loom, doesn't need a power supply. Took a bit of messing about with initially but it works fine now and should be very low maintenance.

Don't mean to p***s on your fireworks but............I bought one about 2 years ago. As you say it was cheap etc. etc. It lasted 3 days into a 5 week trip. I've got an Autocom now! If you're only going on a short trip give it a go but I wouldn't again.

Hope you get on with it OK though.

Cheers Chris thanks for the advice. We will be away for the next 12 months as we are going to Oz.

Might not be a bad thing it breaking on day 3, saves me listening to my other half for the next 362 days and 19,000 miles!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
