By the time you get these bearings changed, I fear it will be too late to save it.
The bearings will have seized to the bevel pinion shaft and the shaft usually gets destroyed trying to remove it. And that pinion shaft (if I remember correctly), is unavailable from BMW.
You can still change the bearings but it will be putting good parts onto bad and they will fail prematurely.
I hope I'm wrong....... You need to sit down and work out how much these repairs are going to cost in parts and labour. It might be cheaper to buy a compete new or PROFESSIONALLY reconditioned rear wheel drive.
If the bearings are changed and the the job isn't' done 100% correctly, that play will come back in 10,000 miles.
