Buying 2 motorbikes in Medellin, Colombia

Hello everyone, my friend and i will travel to Medellin, Colombia, on the 1st of December. We want to buy 2 motorbikes in order to travel through the country and also other neighbor countries. Anyone can help us? We are looking to spend a maximum USD 2000 per bike.

My friend, I’m from medellin and last year I sold my 2016 Suzuki v-strom 650 with 15,000 miles for around $9500 (28 million pesos). With the amount you want to spend $2000, you are lucky if you can get a scoter. Bikes down there are expensive, no like here that you can get an used bike for very little.
Hope this helps

Also, be aware of the scams. More likely $200 dollars for a bike is a scam. A bicycle will cost you mare than that.

There's plenty of options in your price range so don't worry. Ok you won't have a brand new vstrom but who wants to ride one of those around ruta lagunas anyway.

Travellers bikes that come up frequently at your price are DR650 KLR650 and so on. Other options are the XR150L which is a great little bike, I've put over 20,000kms on mine in the past year with 0 problems (mines also Colombian plated).

So hang in there, something will come up, if not have a look at the xr150 or xre190 new or used in Colombia.

I got mine from another traveller in Santiago, Chile. If you can find a bike with a different plate (for example, a chilean plated bike in Colombia) you can possibly make a little profit by riding from one country to the other and selling there.

For example I paid $700usd for mine becuase of the Colombian plate in Chile, and I expect to sell for double in Colombia.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
