It appears to me, after reading this discussion, that there is a bit of confusion here about exactly what an IDP (International Driving Permit) is.
It is NOT a driver licence, nor is it some kind of of validation of your home driver licence for international use.
It is simply a TRANSLATION of your home driver licence into half a dozen different languages, formatted in accordance with an international treaty that deals with translation of driver licences.
