Mid life crisis tour

So there I was, living in a smallish town after having lived in the big smoke all me life, just had enough of it all,
sold me bike before I left, it was as old and tired as I was and I had transport anyway, I drive a London cab, you see, so I had wheels to get about in.
so my plan was to take a long time off work find a new bike and plan a tour, but winter came , fast and cold ,my broken bones ached and with no bike I said "**** it" and went and bought my dream car a Mercedes s350l.. or so I thought, fully loaded, all that was missing was the toilet and wash basin.
so of we went on a 9000 mile trip around Europe in the middle of January,
I saw some awesome sights drove some wicked roads, I saw the leaning tower of pisa, drove up the hill to monte casino (don't there at midnight, there's a big alsation dog guarding the place),I drove through Netherlands, belgium, luxembourg, france, mopnaco, ital y,slovenia, hungary, austria, switzerland and back home again.
and you know what, I didn't seem to enjoy it, it felt bland and boring and I know why, it wasn't a motorbike.
the moral of the story.
don't buy a car when your a biker..
have fun..next trip Russia, Mongolia by bike, 2016

Wrong car?

If you where traveling alone... it definetly feels less loneley in helmet, but maybe it just was the wrong car... .

I've learned that the perfect/dream vehicle often doesn't give as much satisfaction as something that's slightly off...

Try the same with a 1980's VW golf, or ford escort cabrio, ford transit with matras in the back, ... and you'd have a completely different trip.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
