Around the World in 800 Days
We left the UK in May 2012 and drove up through Scandinavia to the Arctic Circle and then we drove across Russia to Lake Baikal before heading South into Mongolia. Whilst in Mongolia we received news that both my parents had been diagnosed with Cancer. We turned around and drove back to the UK in 15 days.
Four months later my parent’s treatments were going well. In February 2013 we decided to head back out on the road. Given the situation we decided not to venture too far. A no commitments route down to Morocco was made, if we needed to return home quickly we could.
We spent 3 months in Morocco and a further 2 in Europe. In August 2013 we evaluated our options and made the decision to head home once more.
In December 2013 Emma and I got married and then unfortunately just one month later my mother passed away.
Adventure preparations are well under way for phase 3 of our around the world journey and the countdown has begun...
Setting off from England on July 21st, we’ll weave our way down through South-Eastern Europe; Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and Cyprus (phew!). By early 2015 we should be venturing into the lesser-travelled Caucasus region through Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Crossing the Caspian Sea by ship we’ll arrive in Kazakhstan and pick up our original route through the ‘Stans and Iran before voyaging into Asia.
Here's a little promo film we made, so you can get a feel for our adventure…

To celebrate our website has had a serious overhaul….

Much love.

Hi.... I was following you when you first set off. I came across you via the hilux surf site and have finally completed my own surf for overland travel.
Looks like you will be heading off again at the same time as us (we are in S.E England.) we are in the final throws of selling everything including our property and have no time limit on our travel plans....2-3-4-5-6 years whatever.
How's the truck?? Still using the same surf?? Hey, maybe we will bump into each other...
Cheers Kevin and Heike.

Great news, which direction are you heading in? Have you got a website? I'd love to see some pics of the car. We're still using the Surf, she's an absolute rock. Just putting some new rear springs in at the moment.

I'm going down to see tony soon to get some final bits done. No firm plans, but would like to get somewhere warm for winter. Will post a pic of the truck later on this tread if ok?
We are thinking eastern Europe first, then west coast africa, east coast Africa. Then ship to India to travel Sri Lanka and Nepal as well. We have up to five years to play with...
We may fly to Thailand in November till april and see Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam to chase to sun...but still not sure. We don't have a website, had one on a previous trip and I can see the sense in it, but this time I'm just going to stay in touch with family.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
