XT600e paint

I have 2003 XT600e which has deep purplish blue metallic paint. Has anyone found a paint for plastic that will match? RS bike paints do a 2 stage paint to match but presumably that is for metal not plastic. Or is it possible to prep the plastic to make it stick?

No problem, use plastic primer. If you dont want to use plastic primer you can use wet grinding paper 800, then you spray very tin layers of paint in the beginning. It will stick, but not the same as primer. Use paper 800 before primer too.

Done with spraycan, still nice after many years. No primer!

Dont forget that you need clearcoat on the metallic, and just be easy in the beginning with the paint layers. Overspray is alot of job removing and when you using clearcoat you dont need it to be shiny on the base color, you can actually use wet paper 1200 before doing clearcoat to get a nice finish.

Yes thats a good idea, buy some silicone remover, i think its the correct name. I use it to clean surface before starting painting. And the place where you gonna let it dry is importan, i have a cabin with fan on. Atleast use it for the last layer of clearcoat. Its not so importan in the beginning, any dust can be removed with the 1200 wet paper before next layer. Patience and time is importan here.

Thanks again xtrock. When I posted this thread I also sent an e-mail to RS bikepaints. A really helpfull guy phoned and explained just as you have about what is needed to do a proper job. Only thing is they don't do patience in a can so I need to learn to take my time - not easy!!!!
