XT 600 2KF gearbox help

Hello everyone, this is my first post here but have read up about a hell of a lot in the past! But alas, it is the time to ask a question.

My beloved XT has been destroyed by a knackered gearbox, oil pump, bearings, the lot.

Rather than buying individual gears from kedo. Which would cost a fortune. Does anyone know of another option, or have a decent gearbox for sale? I really want to get her back on the road. But at the moment it's looking a more than a little too expensive

for 400-500 maybe you can find something decent

Thanks for the reply,

Yeah, it is pretty painful absolute carnage. I'm on the look out, but I think I may have found one or at least a solution, I guess time will tell

Here's a tranny that looks ok , https://www.ebay.com/itm/86-1986-xt-...laFh6g&vxp=mtr

only the 3rd drive gear has some marks on it, which ironically over here , 5th isn't the usual issue , 3rd is , but that one gear is easily replaced . Our bikes of this nature spend most time in 3rd , were-as over there 5th is the most used so which gears go bad are different.

can attest that 3rd gear reputation is just as bad as 5th IMHO..... what not many are aware of is that 3rd gear sets are becoming unobtainable fast. most big sites i checked didnt have it, I was lucky finding it in a smaller local shop
not cheap either, circa 150$ for the set.

Hahaha, well it seems I drew the short straw 3rd, 4th , 5th and a little mark on second

But all will be well, I may pick up that gearbox as a future spare... I think it may be worth hanging onto

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
