xt 600 gearbox

Quick question : Is there any difference between the gear cogs on a 34l and a 1vj? Iknow the shafts aren't the same but can the cogs be interchaned?

I,m sure the gears can be changed but I think the difference is in the electric start model. I,m trying to rebuid an 87 xt,it had a kickstart gearbox.The electric start has all the same gears but the output shft is longer and uses a thick 20mm spacer. I,m desperately looking for a longer electric start shaft if any one has one kicking around their garage.....

I rebuilt an 85 tt600 and bought a gear set, and it turned out to be 90 up and would not fit. I think only a couple of gears are the same. this trans in in perfect condition if any body is interested. $50.oo us plus shipping. this trans is the later one with a nut to hold the c/s sprocket on.

If you have access to part numbers for both, it's worth checking first. Failing that, have a word with the people in the Parts Department. If you are lucky, you will get to speak to someone who 'knows their stuff' and who may be able to suggest options.

Not the more modern approach to selling spares.....

Don't forget about replacing gears as a running pair.

How long is the drive shaft?

if you are asking about my trans 1 is 190mm and 1 is 180mm . forgot to look which was the drive, i think 190mm.

I swopped the g/box internals from a 1vj to a 55w (kick only) engine last week,justed used the shorter shaft (no spacer) from the original 55w engine,went a treat.
