removing the carbs (xtz660 3yf)

Hi guys... haven't been posting for ages... anyway... I have decided to clean the carb of my XTZ660 (3YF, 1995). I loosen the four bands around the joints, the airbox slides to the rear so the carb is free that side but I cannot get the carb off the joints on the cylinder side. Do I have to take them off as well..? There si a screw in the middle it looks impossible to reach...

any practical advise?

You mean, you can't you get the carb loose from the cylinder boots right?

Best and easiest way to work on most bike carbs is to take the fueltank and seat out of the way.. it's a little extra work but...

Btw, do you know what are the jet sizes in those 660 carbs?

yes, I cannot get the carbs loose from from the cylinder. The petrol tank, saddle, airscoops, airfilter box all been taken off, the bike is pretty much naked at the front.
I untied the joint bands (all four, two at the fron and two at the back of the carb) to loose the carb but it comes off only from the airbox not from the front... don't want to pull too much in case there is something I should have done and I don't know... any idea? Do I need to take off the manifolds as well?

I don't know what size the jets are but will post the part number here once \i manage to get it off.

You shouldnt need to take of the manifolds.

Have you removed the throttle cables? on the left side of the carb aswell?

Cant think of what you might have missed.

Uhmmm try like Jens said and remove the throttle cables..

I was able to remove my carbs by pushing them up and down a few times..
If you're afraid you'll damaged the boots you're gonna have to remove the screws that attach them to the cylinder...

Be sure to clean everything around that area prior to doing this!

After that, with the carbs(if the boots are still on) you can squirt some fuel on the inside and jiggle them out.

Hello guys, thank you for your help and support, I finally managed to get these carbs off.

I used the "GIANNI WAY OF MECHANICAL REPEARING", Gianni is a mechanic friend of a friend of mine who apparently applies this method to almost all stubborn mechanical problems (I bet you already guessed...). I had to email him to get the secrets out, hold your breath and read on....

The Gianni Way Of Mechanical Repearing (Carb Section 1.0):

1. find a large spanner with insulated handle (a strong stick of wood would do).
2. wedge the handle betweenn the cyclinder and the carbs on the stay plate.
3. apply leverage until they come off....

mine popped like champagne corks.
