Should work - but I now use the method suggested by someone above - a compressed air impact driver. This tool has turned out to be my best investment in years (yea I know if you don't have a compressor this doesn't help much).
Good luck with installing the kick start. I did it a year or two ago on mine; its a pain to use but it has got me out of real trouble once.
By the way if anyone is interested, the bodgy repair to a broken clutch basket leg using a bolt I described back on page 1 is still going strong after nearly 80,000km and lots of abuse. When I checked it about 3 months ago (when I was doing something else) was showing no signs of problems.
