Exploring the golden city of Jaisalmer

This is my 1st story shared here at horizonsunlimited.com and I hope you all will love it. In the month of Feb'16 we planned a trip to Jaisalmer which is referred as golden city as almost every home, hotel, hostel etc have golden color sand some interiors.

So Jaisalmer is an amazing tourist destination at the land of Kings, which is Rajasthan. Millions of travel enthusiasts like us visit Jaisalmer to experience the astonishing heritage and culture of the beautiful small city.

One of the major travel attractions of Jaisalmer is the Thar Desert which was the mail reason we planned this trip. So he suggest us some tips in activities we could enjoy here like:-

Desert Camping - One of the most exciting adventures in Jaisalmer is that of desert camping. To reach these amazing desert camps at sam sand dune Jaisalmer we hired 6 bikes as most of these camps are located on the boundary areas of the Sam Sand Dunes which is like 50-55 kms from our hotel in the city.

The environment of the camps was very beautiful and we enjoyed traditional folk dancing, melodious music and of course a live bon fire right in the premises of the camp. Before the musical program we also went for the famous Jaisalmer desert safari on camels which we 1st thought we could do on bikes that private bikes and cars are not allowed at the dunes and the jeep safari from the locals were quite expensive.

If you wish to catch a glimpse of the typical Rajasthani lifestyle, you should go desert camping this holiday season

Delicious Rajasthani Cuisine - If you are a food lover like me, then you simply cannot miss tasting the delicious Rajasthani cuisine when you are in these Jaisalmer camps. Although the food is essentially vegetarian, they are cooked with some special spices and other interesting ingredients which make them very special and tasty. So I ded some research on food here was really looking for a mouth watering experience and at the camps (and city too) we try the following delicacy dishes:-

Daal bati choorma - the first dish that comes to mind when you are in Rajasthan is that of Daal bati choorma. It is made with different types of seasoned pulses along with some traditional spices. This dish is best served with ghee and curd. It is a vegetarian dish but is loved by vegetarian as well as non vegetarian people alike.

Murg e Subz - if you are a non vegetarian, there is no reason to be disappointed since murg e subz is the perfect dish for you. The main ingredient of this dish is the boneless chicken along with different types of vegetables and spices.

Laal maans and safed maans - this is also a special non vegetarian dish made with mutton that is uniquely prepared in a special bowl.
Ker Sangri- prepared with capers and beans, this is a dish loved by vegetarians from around the country. This dish is best enjoyed with bajre ki roti.

Final day, we planned a Sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer - There are some amazing palaces and forts in Jaisalmer that are worth exploring in Jaisalmer. So we 1st visited Salim Singh ki Haveli and Jaisalmer Fort which are two of the major attractions of the city. There are also lots of other places like the Bada Bagh and Nathmal ji ki Haveli that can fascinate the travel thirst in you. Apart from this we also visited Kuldhara which some one suggested that its a haunted village but it wasn't

And with this our 4 day trip came to an end we look a train back to Jaipur at 5 PM from jaisalmer railway station. No doubt the best time here was our trip to desert on bike and the safari which we enjoy at the sand dunes.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
