Cheapest ferry: Spain to U.K. and cheapest U.K. to USA shipping

Hi all,

Doesn't anyone know the cheapest ferry routes for Spain to U.K.? I had thought it was San Sabastian -> Portsmouth but looking online that route is £200 for man + bike! Also, is it cheaper to book in advance or just rock up on the day?

Also... what's the cheapest way to ship a bike from U.K. to USA? It's only a tiny 125cc and worth nothing so shipping isn't only viable if it's cheap! There is no rush to move it so if there's a way of doing it cheap but slow that's great.

Thanks

The price does wander around day by day - do a search on somewhere like direct ferries.com and you'll see what I mean, but £200 doesn't seem that bad to me. My cynical side suspects it's based on how much they figure it would cost you to drive back - fuel, hotels, whatever cheaper ferry you have to get etc, and make their price seem good using that comparison.

No idea about cheap but slow transport to the US. I know somebody who took a bike to the US piece by piece over a number of business flights but that was way back before the current paranoia. Maybe you could post it as machine parts or find someone needing to fill a container who'd take it.

If you decide to ride through France, it would be great to meet you, however I'm nearer the Med than the Atlantic!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
