Sounds good about flying in/driving out/driving back in. However, I would be arriving in Montevideo by sea from Europe with the second vehicle (first one at this moment in Uruguay).
Thinking about this again, I suspect that a passport (passport alone) might well not be linked to a vehicle paper issued by aduana. In December 2016 I flew to Uruguay (vehicle already there) and flew out again (vehicle still there). As I went through immigration, did it flag up that "this guy has a vehicle here"? Perhaps. Perhaps not. That's why I asked the original question. If it didn't/doesn't flag up, then a second vehicle can be taken in. But yes, nothing is lost by phoning the UG embassy and asking, even if they don't know the answer. Thanks.
