Store bike in Mongolia or Russia

Hi there,

I plan a trip from Europe to Mongolia by motorcycle and would like to take a 3week-ish trip from Ulaanbaatar to China by train. I thus want to (temporarily) leave Mongolia without my bike. I will pick up my bike 3 weeks later to continue back to Europe through Russia.

I understand that my bike will be stamped into my passport to make sure that I will not leave without it.

a) Can I leave without the bike by train anyway? (As in: they just don't care?)
b) Can I legally store my bike in UB to be able to leave Mongolia?
c) Can I exit Mongolia on my secondary passport, if the bike is stamped into my first passport? Will they want to see some kind of entry-stamp upon exit (which would be in my first passport)?
d) Would it be easier to store my bike in Russia (Irkutsk)?
e) Other ideas?

Thank you!

These people are very helpful in UB:
OASIS CAFE & GUESTHOUSE – Modern and lovely furnished guesthouse with a public cafe/bar area

Maybe they have suitable information. You might even be able to store your bike there.

When I entered in Mongolia in 2014, the bike was not stamped on the passport but had its own TIP papers. I left by plane with no problems. Same in Russian custom union.

If it's only for 3 weeks, I'm pretty sure that TIP papers will last enough and you don't need to worry too much..

Regarding TIP I read that you need to put quite a large deposit to get it. How much was that for your bike (which bike did you ride?)?
Also: Was it troublesome to get it at the border?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
