Has anyone actually tried going through Mynamar from Thailand? i know everyone says that you cant but what is this based on? Help please

I am most interested in this too. Around the beginning of December I'll be in the area and will try to go through to either Laos or Thailand. I'll need to apply in Nepal for a Lao visa, since I'd hate to get turned back if I actually made it through... I guess one can only try, but the info on the Canadian government website is not too good as to the odds of getting in. if anyone is going to try this and/or has more in, please let me know at kberetta at nohorizons.net

4. LOCAL TRAVEL

Travel to and within Burma is strictly controlled by the government. Foreigners are not permitted to enter by road. Travel is restricted outside major cities to designated tourist areas only. Permission from local authorities is required to visit certain areas. Tourists trekking in remote parts of the country have experienced difficulties with military authorities, even after obtaining prior permission. There are frequent security roadblocks on some roads. Travellers must show their passport and valid visa at the airport, train stations, and hotels.

I met a chap that went through there with his wife both on bikes, this was only about two years ago, go to the gt rider web site, stands for golden triangle there story is on there, I will have another look for it make sure its still on there but email me if you have any trouble finding it

Search HUBB for "7days" for the email address of a Burmese agency claiming to be able to arrange paperwork. However, don't expect to be able to ride all the way. Trucks and planes are involved, apparently.

I went to the Burmese embassy in Katmandu twice over the last few months. No dice. They don't even want to consider the option. The second time I was there, they had just turned away two bicyclists with the same idea.
