Johannesburg to Germany, March-May 2015

Hi everyone,

excited to having finally booked the flight to Johannesburg, where my 1150GSA is waiting to be taken back home to Germany! Planned for 2011, now finally put into action with

The tour starts around March 8, via Namibia, Vic Falls, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia - then ideally through Sudan and Saudi (I know the Transit Visa will be a challenge...) into Iran, Turkey and then to Europe.

I'm looking for:
1. Fellow travellers to meet with on the way, either heading north to share some time on the road, or heading south to exchange news on what's ahead.
2. Advise on road conditions during this time of the year, especially for the infamous northern Kenya roads
3. Recommended places to go or to stay, to see or to do
4. Your experience with food on the road - Should I take a full cooking set, or just knife, spork and plate?

Thanks in advance!
Heiko

Remember this is Africa my friend... the road is always difficult, particularly from Dar es Salaam up North...,. and many, many roadblocks.(not gonna say much here) but always good to have your best smile on... and some small change!
As for cooking, wer're in a Landrover so I'm not much help there..
Safe Travels, maybe see you on an African road somewhere

Hi Reg,

Have the first 6.000km on the clock, leaving today from Jinja/Uganda to Lake Nakuru, will arrive in Arusha Wednesday night.

Roads so far very good to appaling, but good riding with not too much rain (which is likely to change...)..

Will send a PM to try and meet some place...

Excellent Doc,
There has been quite abit of rain around Tanz but very on/off and mostly late afternoon.
We are traveling musicians on the road so, if you come through to Arusha on Wed then you'll still catch us here as we are going to be performing on Fri & Sat at one of the nice local restaurants.
Look forward to catching up and hearing about up North...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
