PERU 2017 anyone?

Anyone interested in riding Peru for 3-4 weeks sometime in 2017?
I don't have any particular time frame in mind.

While riding through Peru back in 2009 on my way to Ushuaia I fell in love with riding there, and there is much more to see in that country. Hoping to ride smaller dirt backroads as much as possible as opposed to main highways.

These two shops rent bikes. There are probably others.

I am not affiliated with either of these shops, nor have I ever used them. I am considering flying my KLR to Peru and leaving it there for future rides.

Airfares are very affordable.
For example: Chicago-Lima RT Aug 15-Sept 15 $560 USD

Riding Peru this way is a great way to see much of Peru without paying big money to a tour operator. Nothing against the tour guys, just not for me or my budget.

April too soon

Hello,

If I read you right you say you may pass through Peru in April?
That's way to early in the year for me, but thanks.
I hope you have a great trip.

Hey!

I'm leaving Alaska in June and heading down to Argentina, not sure exactly when I will be in Peru... It may November/December time? But either way, I'm planning on passing through and would love to have someone to ride with.

When to go. When to go...

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have been in touch with Toby as well. I still haven't decided whether renting from him or taking my KLR down there is the better option.

Hickory, your plan of late November interests me. I would have to be home for Christmas though. I'll be thinking about that time frame for sure. Do you plan to buy a 250 or 650? If I end up renting from him it will be a 250, as he does not rent larger bikes.

Blue Sky, I will keep your schedule in mind too, though as it stands July is probably not the best for me.

Hola,

I will likely purchase the Sumo Terra 250 beefed up to 300cc....with the buyback it may cost as little as 15.00 a day for my 3 or 4 months. Air Canada shipping is approximately 3000.00 each way to ship my 650.....I enjoyed the Suzuki 200cc I rented From Freedom in Quito this past February....on the back roads and twisties it was perfect.....

I did a trip with Perumotors in 2014 and they were respectable and good guys. Although our trip was guided (my first trip in South America), they have rentals available. Personally, I think the headaches associated with shipping a bike, dealing with government inspections / paperwork takes away from the fun. Unless you plan to make numerous trips to Peru, I would just spend a couple of extra dollars and rent a bike. Also, I have heard that it is not easy to simply cross borders, such as Ecuador or Bolivia, which is something which would interest me if I had a bike there. Again, I could decide next year to do a Bolivia trip, and rent a bike there. Have fun!
