Ireland to Kyrgyzstan - Mid May to end of June - Fly home!

Hi All,
Planning to leave Ireland mid May and ride briskly to Istanbul then slowing down on route to Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pamir Highway and Kyrgyzstan.

I'm riding a KLR650 and like to operate on a low budget ie camping, hostels, couchsurfing, homestays etc. Will probably average 300km/day but much more prior to Istanbul. Love to ride the backwaters and mountains, meet with people and drink a couple of s at the end of the day!

Working on visas etc at the moment (Iran Carnet proving interesting)

I'm planning to leave the bike in Osh or Bishkek (another challenge) and fly home late June, returning in 2017 to push onward to Mongolia and Magadan.

I'm solo but would have no issues linking in or out with a like minded traveler.

Hi Declan,

My plans sound a lot like yours right now.

I am looking to leave UK (I am Aussie) about May 20th, see some of east EU to hit Turkey about July 13, then go via Iran to Kyrgysztan towards mid-late august. Then I hope to meet up with others for crossing of China.

For sure camping/cheap options riding DL650.

It might be that you will boom through EU a bit faster than me, but let me know if you want to chat and discuss plan - I'm always up for a riding partner.

Len

Cool

Hi Declan,

Ken here in Dublin . My old gt550 is currently sleeping near the Armenia/Iran border. Hoping to move it further down the road this summer. No fixed destination...possibly Kazakhstan/ turkmenistan parish. Keen to talk to you about the visa/ carnet situation. I just need to put another post up first before the site allows me to pm ya. ..

Think I have found a home for it in Bishkek. Have booked a flight from Bishkek back home so Bishkek it'll be one way or the other!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
