Ruta 40 Jan/Feb 2020

I am flying a bike into Buenos Aires at the beginning of January, and riding Ruta 40, starting at the northern end. Once I get down south, I will see how much time I have left until travelling home at the end of Feb, and either continue to Ushaia or ride part of the Carreterra Austral and then cut across the Andes back to Buenos Aires from Osorno in Chile.

Wondering if anyone else is planning anything similar and wants to hook up for part of the trip?
I am a 58 years old, pretty laid back English guy. Most of my long bike trips thus far have been on Harley's, but I did a lot of dirt biking in my youth. I am a reasonably competent mechanic, don't mind long days in the saddle, and can't speak Spanish. Planning on camping for the majority of the time, hostels when I need to shower, wash clothes, and drink . Part of the focus of the trip is photography, so will stop randomly when the scenery and light dictates it. Bike is an RE Himalayan. Although I am happy travelling alone, some company would be great too.

Hello man, why don´t try Ushuaia to North? From Buenos Aires to Ushuaia you can catch Ruta N° 3, is boring, next to atlantic shore, about 4- 5 days of trip and then come back next to Andes mountain...February is cool in Ushuaia

Route 40

Hi
I've done the Northern part of route 40 and it was fantastic. I will be doing it again this coming Jan-Feb 2020.
I heard nasty rumours that parts of it are paved....
See you on the road, stay safe, have fun.

I want to go north to south, that way see how much time I have left and head into Chile on the way back.

Ok, stay in touch, maybe hook up somewhere enroute if our routes cross. Have a great trip!

Hi everybody
I'm playing with the idea of doing a simiar trip: Cartagena/Usuhaia or Santiago/Usuhaia and the then going back North. Don't have a fixed route, just a general idea and a will to improvise the rest. What are you doing with the bikes? are you shipping them or plan to buy them in SA? Writing from Barcelona. Regards to all.

My bike is now being shipped to arrive in BA on 6th January. All being well, should be in La Quica on 12th Jan, then heading south.
