US to Mexico and Guatemala in mid-February

Hello everyone,

I'm planning a trip leaving from Southwest Colorado in mid-February. Right now my plan is to ride from Colorado to the Southern tip of Baja, take the ferry over to the mainland, then ride south to Guatemala where I'll be doing a Spanish homestay program in San Pedro La Laguna.

Probably be crossing the border at Tecate around February 15th depending on how I can hit the weather to get out of Colorado to head south in the middle of winter. I'll be on a KLR650 and looking to do a good bit of off-pavement adventure riding, but know I'll also be spending a good amount of time on pavement as well.

Planning roughly 3 weeks to get to Guatemala depending on how much I decide to wander along the way. Maybe 2 weeks on the way back.

Would love to join up with some other riders along the way if anyone else out there is planning something similar.

Cheers everyone!

Would love to stop by Todos Santos and say hello!

I'll shoot you a PM as the trip gets closer and I have a better idea of the exact dates I'll be in your area.

Cheers!

I’m planning on heading south around then too on a dr650. Same route as long as the road is good. Last I heard from someone was potholes the size of busses from some of the heavy rain back then. I imagine it’s all good now though. I’m in LA / Long Beach. When are you planning on leaving? I was aiming second week of January.

Hi there,

I too, will be slowly working my way down the peninsula beginning the third week of January, a bit ahead of you. Let's keep each other in mind and perhaps we will cross paths for a or ride. Enjoy your trip!

Sounds like a great plan! I'm down here in Mexico right now on a BMW X-Challenge. I'm not in a big rush so maybe we can meet up and ride a few days together! My WhatsApp is plus one 405-410-2359

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
