Trans Canada Adventure Trail (TCAT) July 2016

Planning to ride from East to West beginning around the first or second week of July.

Details:

Bike - 2009 KLR 650
Time on the trail: 8-10 weeks
Accommodation: mainly camping with occasional hotel/motel

About me: Retired. Have some experience with longer rides.

16000k down Appalachian Trail - to Continental Divide Ride to Vancouver and back to London Ontario.

TransAmericaTrail. - Jelico Tennessee to Pt. Orford Oregon, and then back to Colorado.

Some lesser rides around Algonquin Park and also rides out to Vermont.

I've generally ridden smaller bikes (Wr250R, DRZ400, KTM350) This will be my first long trip on a larger bike.

I'm not a interested in seeing how quickly I can do the trip.

I've got more background in photography and I appreciate landscapes, but also enjoy challenges and adventure.

I'm pretty self sufficient and content to ride alone, but also appreciate and value the company of others.

I've got some experience in moto setup and mechanics, and can generally figure things out when they go wrong.

If any of this sounds like your cup of tea feel free to drop me a note. I'd be happy to have some company for part or all of the journey.

I'll be heading out to NFL around the end of June on some faster roads. From Vancouver Island, I'll probably ride down to Colorado (near Denver) and then catch a ride back to Ontario from there.

Hi Ned,

Interesting tour you are planning to do this summer.
I am looking to do the TCAT from Ontario to BC late June or all of July. Solo for now but would prefer to ride with 1-2 more riders.
Also semi retired and Photography has been a passion for a long term.

When are you planning the ride west?

Haven't completely nailed down the date yet. If I leave Ontario for NFLD second week in July, I'm thinking I'd be in Ont. appx 2-3 weeks later. (just a guess) I'm going to be looking more closely at a day by day schedule (although I'm not an engineer so I'm flexible) to get a closer idea for the where and the when.

Thanks for the note Graham. I'll be on the other side of the country when you're in Vancouver. Hope to be in Vancouver around the end of August. If you're still around then it would be great to touch base and hear about your trip.

If all goes to plan, my bike arrives RoRo in Halifax from Zeebrugge ( Belgium ) on the 4th of July.
From there- NFL - Labrador - Québec - .........
We might run into each other somewhere on the TCAT :-)

Hi Vic,

What airline or shipping company did you use to ship the bike to Halifax?
Any feedback on how the process went?

Thanks,

Joris

I'm planning to be in Newfoundland pretty close to that time as well, so we may find ourselves travelling on the same ferry.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
