Routing: Columbia to Panama

I'm in the initial research phase for a trip from Ushuaia to Virginia. Whats the best way to get from Columbia to Panama? Riding a 800 or 1200GS if it makes any difference. Thanks.

Might want to post this in route planning forum.

I have never done any rideing that way but am my self planning a trip from Canada to SA, so im interested and would even help plan a route.
Routes depend on a few things, what type of riding do you enjoy (surface, scenery).
What type of things do you want to see along the way, why are you doing the ride. just for the ride or to help experience a country, culture, nature, history.

One of the things is zoom in on google earth and check roads out

I am 4,000 miles into that trip - just arrived in Columbia - no ferry or sail boat service for motorcycles for ? next 6 months or more if ferry doesn't return as rumored.

Had to fly me and the bike - $1200!!

There is a ferry from Colon, Panama to Cartagena, Colombia.
Ferry Panama Cartagena. Por: Panama Canal Tours. | Traslados a Colón en Panamá y a Cartagena en Colombia. + Crucero a Bocas del Toro, Panamá.
This ferry service is started one year ago.
Without motorbike I had to pay 108 us dollar.

Don't get your hopes up about taking your bike on that ferry (or the other one, which similarly failed).

This ferry stopped last may... No ferry crossing the gap at the moment as far as I know.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
