Has anyone ever used a Triptyque???

Hello All,

Crossing SE Asia and Carnet is only good for stage 1 countries (i.e. not India which is on my route). UK provider can upgrade carnet, but at quite an eye watering price....so have a back-up plan - but has anyone done a TIP into India or purchased a mythical 'Triptyque'? No one seems to know anything about it?! If so please let me know who provided it and approx costs...

I thought a carnet de passage was a Triptyque, a document with three sections, I have never heard of the Indians issuing a TIP or letting anyone in without a carnet that covered their very high import taxes on vehicles.

It is a Carnet, but just for one country....with one sheet I believe (same 3 sections). Supposedly a much cheaper option for just the one country. No one seems to know anything more than that...or where you could get one...hence the question. It's a mystery....

I have never heard of one, the minimum to my knowledge is 10 pages, either way it is not going to be cheap as it will still require the same deposit and admin charges as a 10 or 25 page document. Good luck with finding a cheaper solution and keep us informed if you do.

You may have some confusion here. There is a simplified carnet de douane available which is applied for single country use, but it is only for the temporary import/export of professional goods/equipment ( for sales promotion for example at an exhibition) when accompanied. It's a one off piece of paper and the customs costs are hugely reduced as it's only a temporary export/import. It comes under the Brussels Convention of 1961. IT DOES NOT cover vehicles in transit, for which I believe you need the full CDP ( Carnet de passage en Douane), the critical words here being ''de passage'' -transit-.

The simplified carnet is called the ATA.
