Petrol in Uzbekistan

I’m planning a motorcycle trip in Uzbekistan. I know that the availability of petrol is a challenge. Is there an up to date map or website with the stations selling petrol?

My understanding is in places where there are no petrol stations people will sell from their houses. Look for roadside bottles.

Google has gas stations listed but I doubt it will be of much help. When I was there in May there was a time when 5 stations in the row haven't had gasoline or only had A-80. A-91 if you are lucky but engine would start pinning at anything above 1/4 throttle so it was most likely A-80 sold at premium.

Now the problem is largely in northern Uzbekistan until you get to Khiva and then on new road to Bukhara everywhere else to the south A-92/95 is widely available.

If you are entering from Beyneu carry jerry can and put the highest octane available. There is a gas station across the border in Uzbekistan about 80km from Beyneu where you can top off with A-80 but they were not happy to start a pump for anything less then 10L.

It would be also a good idea to carry fuel sock there and at Pamir hwy.

If you are entering via Shymkent/Tashkent border x-ing don't worry about it. Gaz in KZ widely available as long as you are along main road.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
