Glad to hear that you and your bike were re-united.
As a matter of interest, how was it stolen. Was it locked(if so was it forced), alarmed etc? was it on the street, outside hostel...;was it daytime or at night; was it started or pushed away:confused1:
We take precautions against theft however I´m allways looking to learn from other peoples experiences, because, as you know better than most, the security of our bikes and other gear is a major issue for us all.
Sue and I are travelling with two bikes, and we lock them together front and back, plus mine has a steering lock. When looking for places to spend the night, we look for hostels etc that either have secure parking, allow you to roll the bike indoors at night. Sometimes when we are travelling in a particularly dodgy area I get a bit paranoid insist on a bedroom where I can see the bikes from the window!
If we are forced to park the bike in the street we look for places that have good security and park nearby, e.g. banks, police stations; failing that I lok for a street seller, park near his stall, and bung him an extra dollar to keep an eye on the bikes.
One more comment to add; whilst in Florida a police officer we spoke to pointed out that many stolen bikes are not actually started, they are simply pushed away - often a very short distance, e.g. around the corner and into a garage, or even in some cases into another room in the same motel!!
Better luck in future buddy.
