Just read that page, that is very bad news indeed, my condolences to the families involved. Like everyone, I hope that this is an isolated incident, we shall see.

Just saw a Dutch newspaper that wrote it was a terrorist attack with guns and knives. The car hit the group several times and then they were attacked with knives. IS claimed responsibility

2-wheelers be careful in Tajikistan

We're now apparently an easy target for a nicely protected islamist cager to kill you on purpose:

It's IS policy to claim responsibility for any such attacks to raise their image, whether they were anything to do with it or not, so I wouldn't be too worried about a co-ordinated campaign just yet. But there has long been a risk of attacks, and it may be that a large group of slow moving western cyclists was just too tempting for some, who happily are now themselves deceased.

UK Foreign Office is a good reference for personal safety when visiting countries far from home, even for non UK nationals. They make it clear that risks of this nature cannot be ruled out. RIP to all affected and hope this was indeed an isolated incident.

Allow me to leave a word here

Hi, my name is Dave and I live in Osh / Kyrgyzstan

This event in TJ is a shocking moment but maybe also a wake up call for he west and tourists. The Fergana Valley has more than 500 returning fighters from the IS. I guess I have not to mention that TJ gives also his share as a country to the Fergana Valley...
Yes it is a fact that IS claims the incident for its own all over the place but in this case and for TJ I am more on the side that this is truly done on purpose of those folks. It was definitely a terror attack. This is just my opinion.
Motorbikes are a lot harder target in the way of hitting with a car but I think there is another reason behind cyclist and this is their dress: short trousers and sleeveless shirts.
I do hope that TJ government does its best to clarify this issue now. They are well known to be restrict and consequent government for this kind of stuff. Out of insider information I know that even islamic underground movements have a hard bite to continuou.

But I also want to spread some hope for those folks who are on the way right now. I think there is no saver moment than exactly now for traveling this region. Because government is aware and the roads are supposedly more guarded right now.

Have a save trip,

Thank you Dave, that is also what I think, usually it is much safer after an attack like this.

We are planning to do the Pamir on theway back from Mongolia in about 2 weeks.

Right now there are rumors that the Pamir is closed, can you confirm that or do you have any info about that?

And for this kind of attacks:
There are mor islamic terrorost attacks in Europe than on the Pamir....

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
