Question Import EU to USA Bike Process???

I have read several posts concerning this subject and they are all over ten years old. I was wondering if there is any current knowledge on the subject concerning the newest EU spec motorcycles import to the US?

If you have any information concerning this process I would appreciate your assistance.

I currently live in Germany and want to purchase a new Honda Africa Twin (in Germany, EU Spec) ride it for 3-5 years and then ship back to the USA.

The 2016 Honda Africa Twin is sold in both the EU and the US. There are no differences in the different spec bikes as to EPA, safety equipment or materials. These bikes are identical. The only thing I can think of is that the Muffler may not have the US DOT stamp on the wheel side. However, each has a separate catalytic converter and the EU EPA has a higher standard than the US.

Thanks,
rac

I'd also be curious to know about this. I shipped one the opposite direction a couple years ago and it wasn't without its hangups. My assumption is that it would be easier to ship from the EU to the US because of the harmonization laws, import taxes, etc. Just a guess though.

Perhaps best to go right to the source of the rules & regulations for guidance.

Here are two links to get you started:

Importing a Motor Vehicle to the USA - (US Customs)

Requirements for importing a motor vehicle (Emissions & Safety Regulation Compliance)

Personally, I think the greatest risk you face is that the European spec moto will not be accepted as emissions-compliant because it lacks the necessary statement that the manufacturer includes on the serial number plate to indicate compliance with US EPA regulations.
