ZegaPro extension prototype

I am a self-employed machinist in NE Wisconsin with an idea for a product -- I hope I'm not violating the selling rules here, but I don't really know how else to do this.

I finally bought my dream bike and at 9pm the night before we left for our first "Adventure" to Pictured Rocks up in the UP, I realized that our commitment to "All The Gear, All The Time" was a serious hassle. It's a 3 mile hike to the beach, but only one of our expensive intercom-equipped helmets fits in my large pannier and locking the other under the seat is not so easy. Plus, jackets, pants and boots all take up space. My clever wife sent me back to work with an idea for an extension so I could fasten the lid without closing it all the way, which I milled from solid aluminum. I used a stainless bolt to lock the other side and put a suitcase lock on the bottom and it worked. It's not REALLY secure, but it's better than just leaving everything out in the open. Please see attached photos.

So I'm thinking about selling these, but I need to know if anyone would be interested in buying them and if the design is OK before I start production. I had a local fab shop bend up 10 out of stainless -- they're kinda ugly but until I build my own tooling, it will have to do.

I'd like to sell them all just to get opinions. With the stainless bolt and lock nut, I've got to get $25 ea to cover my cost. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
