Some good news for Derek...
Eric Sovern from Surly Bikes in Minnesota together with one of his distributors, Chuck from Pacific Coast Cycles, have offered to fund both the bike frame/forks and the shipping of the parts to Kyrgyzstan.
I managed to locate another American called Ryan Hornung who runs Iron Horse Nomads (what a name!) and lives in Bishkek. He's offered to help Derek with the importing side.
There's quite a lot of non-Surly bike bits that are needed plus luggage frames and panniers which are being sorted out and I'm sure the donations he's received will cover the cost of those with some to spare. So all in all, a terrific outcome. People have really come up with the goods for him!
Derek also needs to ship out of Kyrgyzstan to somewhere warmer as with visa delays earlier on, plus the time lost in the accident, and now the gear replacement, he's run out of time and winter is closing in.
The number of people watching Derek's FaceBook page has more than doubled in the last few days with over 250 now. So to keep up to date with Derek, click 'like' on https://www.facebook.com/dereksbiketour
