DL650 Generator maximum load

Hi all!

I've got a DL650 K9 and I've fitted it with a 12V socket as part of the modification process for the RTW trip in August this year. Main reason is to use it for charging my laptop, camera, camcorder, gps and phone batteries. I started thinking about it though and now am concerned that I might overload the generator. Is there a maximum load I can apply to the generator?

If its only to charge accessories you'll be fine. Stuff like that dont draw much current.

That puts my mind to rest a little! A huge "what if" syndrome makes its way through the closer it is to the leave date

The only thing I am worried about is that there is goind to be a couple of things running in the background: the rider/pillion communication system and heated grips at the same time + whatever needs charging.

Doesn't that change the scenario a little?

hook them all up and test it before you go. that's the best/only way to be sure.

also, I'd fit an on/off light switch. even just something under the fairing you can use if you need to. this new-fangled idea of 'always on' lights is a bit daft when you're outside of europe. and there may well be a time when you don't want the lights draining the battery while you are coaxing the bike into life.

I agree! The idea of having the light on when you're trying to start your bike isn't the best one. Even wintering the bike I was a little worried about this. I'll think about adding the switch. As far as testing is concerned I'm definitely gonna do it. Isn't that a long term issue though meaning it will work at first but after 30k miles the generator is gonna give up on me in the middle of nowhere?!
