East Africa Journey

Has anyone recently completed a route to East Africa, Ethiopia, to be precise ?? When is the best time of the month / year to start supposing I have only 2 months for this ?? Also, what is the best bike for this journey ??

I would like to hear from experience riders who have completed this route recently.

Hi Noah

The best bike is purely a personal choice. People will have done a trip like yours on a Triumph Rocket 3, a Gold Wing, A Suzuki GSX-R, a Honda Cub, BMWs of all flavours, BSAs, Nortons, Triumphs etc.

So ask yourself a few questions:
What sort of riding do you want to do?
How much is going to be on tarmac, on gravel and how much off road?
If everything goes wrong and you have to abandon the bike how much can you afford to lose?
Are you strong enough to pick up whatever bike you use by yourself or are you travelling with someone?
Do you have to carry tents etc or are you staying in hotels / lodges etc

There is no best bike, there is no wrong bike - choose the one that suits you and will make you smile. What is often said is that why don't you go on the bike you have now?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
