There's a good info which is not too old. I think its these wholesale companies my friend was talking about running barges. A motorcycle should be considerable less than a car. But in DRC is the price dependent on your negotiation skills... A trip like Goma-Rubavu-Kabale-Mbarara-Fort Portal-Masindi-Pakwach-Goli-Bunia-Mambasa-Kisangani and then by barge down the Congo should be doable. By that route cars get shipped to Goma my friend told me. Thats the route I am planning but from Kampala using public transport. According to the information I have from congolese traders they use these route.

I'm currently in Botswana sorting out visa for the DRC. I'm now looking at barging from Kisangani to Kinsasha around mid March.

I'm getting a 3-month visas so I have enough time to wait around for a barge in Kisangani, and have some playroom if it would take longer than anticipated!

We didn't manage to get it in Botswana. There's no embassy there, but we got to meet someone who knew someone. Will try again in Dar Es Salaam in about a month! Any new info on the safest entry points in the east?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
