Ghanaian visa on arrival

I've just read on the Thorn Tree that it's possible to obtain a visa on arrival at the Ghana / Togo border. Does anyone know if this is true ?
the info' is 28 days old apparently. Cheers.

I couldn't find anything like this on the Thorn Tree. Got a link of any sort? I'm very dubious--and that's an understatement.

From time to time people have reported getting Ghana visas in neighboring capitals, despite the fact that the official rules say this is impossible. Many others have reported trying and failing. But Ghanian consulates all over the world seem to operate independently, with differing rules and requirements, so in a pinch it's always worth trying.

At border crossings....never heard of such a thing personally, and I'd be interested if it were true. More specifics might be in order--for example, there are at least a half-dozen official crossings between Ghana and Togo, not limited to the big one in the south on the edge of Lomé.

Hi Tenere99,

Over the years leading overland groups, we have managed to get the Ghanaian visa on the border with Togo and also Burkina Faso (not sure on CI however) - the last time we managed was in 2013 - so 2 years ago. I did hear of 1 other group who managed in late 2014 for 1 of their passengers.

It cost $100USD (from memory), and is referred to as an emergency visa.

Here's the catch - the officials absolutely hate issuing it, and seldom do, most people get refused. It's easier for us with leading large groups (up to 20 at a time), because if one of the group has failed to get the visa in advance the officials are usually sympathetic and help us out.

I strongly advise that you do not go for this option as it is in no way guaranteed.

David.

There have been reports at Ouaga ...

Personally I would try both cities and cross your fingers, they aren't the easiest!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
