Have a look at #10 at the following link. That is how I entered Ghana without a Carnet in 2015. It is a bit complicated and costly but doable. I advice you to use one of the major border posts as they need access to their internal computer system to process the TIP which they may not have at small crossings. Bring a lot of patience.

Good luck,

I got in late 2014 on motorbike without a carnet. I recall it being one of the more expensive TIPs I ever had to purchase (equivalent of $40 or so?) but otherwise was no problems. Except that I didn't have $40, but that's another story.

Best info I've seen on the visa etc requirements on the West Coast. Starting my trip next week and I'm very appreciative that you have taken the time to log this information in such detail. Thank you

Hi Dan,
Thanks for your appreciation. No, I'm not on the west coast since a long way back. I am currently in Addis Ababa fighting the visa bureaucracy here. Soon I will be in Europe. No more visa procedures. I beleive I have aged on average a light year for every embassy I have visited in Africa.

06.02.2017 crossed the border into Ghana from Burkina in Paga. Motorcycle registered in Russia, without carnet. The cost of 50 cedis, time 15 min. Everything was very quick and easy

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
