Zika effects

I am living in Brazil and a bit worried, how this Zika epidemic in South America influenced your travel plans?

We are just about to head into Brazil where Zika is - from Peru where it is (for now) absent.

Sounds to me that when you consider other diseases that are endemic in this area such as malaria, denge, and yellow fever, Zika is barely worth worrying about UNLESS you are female and planning to get pregnant. What about rabies?

Want real risk - just drive a car or cross streets as a pedestrian in any country.

First 3 deaths are reported today from Columbia, I know that in Brazil today at least 6 more people hare hospitalized in intensive care because of Zika.. My sister in law delivered a Zika baby yesterday, a big drama.

These (first mentioned) cases are not pregnant woman.

What "they" forget to tell us..

Thanks very much for your timely information.
Words can't help a great deal at present for your new predicament.

Reporting in Europe says that the virus is turning up in samples of semen and saliva; as you indicate, we know next to nothing about this virus.

For travelers to the Americas it might be good idea to check the CDC Website (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) now and then.

A news item today says that Kenya may withdraw from the summer Olympics; it wasn't clear to me if this was a firm decision or some kind of "stance" at this stage; typical of the "breaking news" form of reporting.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
