SA from late 2018 for 6 months+

Partner and I are putting our bikes on a plane and heading to Santiago in November this year. At the moment we don't have a time limit apart from possible visa/TIP limitations. Brazil is the only place we need a visa, most of the countries we have 90 days.

We are planning on heading south through Chile and Argentina to arrive in Ushuaia December/January.
From Ushuaia, we will head north in Argentina to Bolivia, Peru and Equador, possibly Columbia.

We are aiming to camp as much as possible, we know hostels are cheap, but we are hoping to camp, unless the weather is really crap.

In regard to the TIP's for our bikes, if we are in Chile for close to 90 days, leave and enter Argentina, how long till we can re enter Chile and get another 90 day TIP?
Same with personal entry, we have 90 days from entry, can we leave for a few days/weeks, come back to Chile and 90 days starts again?

Chile Visa

You get 90 days every time you enter. Even when you cross in the south on your way to Ushuaia, you get 3mo to go 155kms.

Awesome, we'll be plodding about on a couple of KTM 690's with Australian plates.

Patagonia winds!

From what I have read the winds around Patagonia down to Tierra Del Fuego and Ushuaia get pretty nasty around summer time.
When is best time to be in that area?

So once we leave Santiago we are planning on going to check out Valparaiso. After that we are heading south toward Caraterra Austral.
What are some places we should visit on our way from Valparaiso heading south?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
